Accelerated Reader Program

Accelerated Reader or AR is an independent reading program. This program allows students to find and read books that are at an appropriate reading level. The AR reading range is designed to be the level at which students can read without help and without frustration.

Through this program, students are given a reading goal (points) per quarter. This goal is calculated based on the student’s reading level and reading 20 minutes a day. This program also assigns points to books. When a student finishes a book, he or she will take a comprehension AR quiz on the computer. If a student “passes” the quiz (60%-100%), points will be awarded toward the AR goal. The score on the quiz reflects how well the student understands the book.

All of a student’s AR reading information (quizzes taken, scores, goals) is available for you to look up online at home. To find the Renaissance Place “Home Connect”: go to the Gilbert Public Schools website (www.gilbertschools.net), find “Our Schools”, click on Gilbert Public Schools, scroll down to Canyon Rim, click on the tab that states AR & Book Find, click on the words “Renaissance Home Connect”, then enter your child’s username & password (the student will know this or it is on the AR library folder or ask your child’s teacher for this information). The 1st line is the average % correct on the quizzes, and the 2nd line is the quarterly goal and the progress towards that goal.

This program is meant to be reading practice at a student’s independent reading level, and the more students practice the better they will read!

If you have any questions, contact your child’s teacher or you can stop by the library & Mrs. Stauss, the librarian, will be happy to help you! Happy Reading
